The Lake Pepin Art & Design Center is showcasing Pepin-county textile treasures during this community exhibition: Heirloom Textiles of Pepin County.
The exhibition features textiles on loan from local families, in a variety of materials, including quilts, table linens, knitted or crocheted items, woven or hooked rugs, clothing and other textile-based handwork. These are items that were created for special occasions, as well as for everyday use - many items with an interesting history or local connection.
The exhibition will feature a presentation by Maureen Hark, a textile conservator who has
worked at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. on Sunday, Septembre 12 during Laura Ingalls Wilder Days.
Jarona Ilo, a ceramic artist from Estonia, will be arriving in Pepin around September 2, for a one-month residency under the invitation of the Art & Design Center. A portion of Jarona's costs for the residency are being supported by grant funding from Estonia. Our many thanks to Richard Spiller for coordinating, and to all of our community members who are helping to support this residency.
Jarona will use one of the kilns in the basement during her stay, and have a temporary studio space in the old Amish Store at 309 Third street.
