EXHIBITION - Gordon Cullen: The Concise Townscape

Opening reception Sunday, July 13, 3-6 pm

Exhibition through August 2

An exhibition of drawings, renderings and prints by the late Gordon Cullen, opening Sunday, July 13th, 2008 at The Lake Pepin Art & Design Center's new location at 2nd and Main Streets in Pepin, Wisconsin. An opening reception will be held on the 13th from 3 to 6 p.m.

Gordon Cullen was a British architect, illustrator, designer and editor who studied and worked in Great Britain. Like his American contemporary Kevin Lynch, he was concerned with how we see landscape and townscape and in the creation of ways to describe, talk about and study the built environment. Cullen's ideas and concepts were published in 1961 in The Concise Townscape, a book which had significant influence on the planning of towns and cities. Cullen's work explored the idea that certain effects achieved by planners and architects were often definable and followed established aesthetic principles.
This exhibit was made possible through the generous assistance of Professor Emeritus Dennis Grebner, University of Minnesota.

GORDON CULLEN: THE CONCISE TOWNSCAPE, runs through August 2 at The Lake Pepin Art & Design Center.
